Empirical research is research that is done in controlled fashion (control groups, pretest posttest, correlational studies of the effect of one thing on another, etc.) that has been published in an academic venue that is peer-reviewed. We will discuss this in class, and you may want to talk to the reference librarian at the UND library (they have good online access) to find out how to search for these.
You will read the article and present it to us in class on the day you sign up to do this. You should prepare a powerpoint, but keep it SHORT and to the point—no more than 15 minutes maximum (I will cut you off—fair warning!). This is both to keep us on schedule, and to mimic the role of presenting research at academic conferences.
