"Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten."
B.F. Skinner
So, the mage Visitor wishes to embark on this quest--know that it is long and difficult, but the reward is great. For this quest, you will use the recommended readings list (see “Recommended Books” at the beginning of this syllabus) and your own scouting abilities to generate a tome on games and learning. Your work will culminate in a book chapter published as an Open Education Resource for those who follow. Your audience is adventurers like yourself (academics and educators) who are looking to understand the main ideas and issues of this area of study—a Cliff's Notes version of the topic, if you will. It should be written in an easy-to-understand tone, but be academically rigorous and accurate, including multiple citations and quotations in APA style.
Open only to Mages, of course!
"A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step"
Lao Tzu (nd)
For this stage, you must have chosen your initial area of focus within this topic and communicated it to the Dungeon Master.
“Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
Helen Keller (nd)
For this stage of the quest, you must have communicated with all of your fellow questers (those on the same path as you) and negotiated a rough plan of how you will ensure that your efforts are coordinated and not duplicative. Will you each write a chapter on a different area of focus within this topic? Will one of you write a chapter that extends and builds off the other? Will you collaborate on a single, more substantive chapter? Once you have a plan, share that with the Dungeon Master for approval and upload a screenshot of the message here to claim your reward!
"The map is not the territory...but it sure comes in handy when you are lost!"
Dungeon Master, just now
For this stage, you must have developed an outline of your chapter, shared that with your fellow questers for their input, and modified as needed. Once it is complete, submit it here for your reward!
"You are never finished; just done."
Also Dungeon Master, also just now.
For this stage, you submit your final chapter to show your mastery of the topic. This work now becomes your guide for the Guild Wars later, so share it with your colleagues and study it well!
